HFS Chicago Scholars Casino Night Poker Tournament

Join HFS Chicago Scholars on Friday, May 31 at 6:30pm for their Casino Night, featuring a $125 buy-in poker tournament. 

The event is being held at the Holiday Inn, Chicago Mart Plaza. Your $125 ticket includes food, drinks and entry into the Texas Hold 'em Poker Tournament with $5000 of poker chips to start. Poker chips have no cash value.

Attire: Cocktail, Business Casual or Dressy Casual is appropriate.

HFS Chicago Scholars assists economically disadvantaged Chicago inner-city high school students who show academic and leadership promise achieve their educational goals by providing financial assistance and mentoring. They provide the following to their scholars:

  • financial assistance to attend top Chicago private high schools;
  • Academic Directors dedicated to each high school class and one-on-one mentors;
  • four-year written commitment specifying performance expectations;
  • college visits, selection and admissions support.

Children’s Oncology Services 8th Annual Charity Poker Tournament

2013 Charity Poker ChampionshipsPlace your bet on One Step Programs as we prepare for our 2013 Charity Poker Championship on Thursday evening, February 7th, 2013 at The River East Arts Center in Chicago, Illinois.

Joe Navarro: Learning to read poker tells

One question I’ve been asked repeatedly since writing 200 Poker Tells is, “How do I get to where I can read others like a pro?”

When I entered the FBI, I thought I was a fairly good observer. I had been studying body language for several years and thought what more could there be? Well, a lot, so much so that I’m still learning. I honed my observation skills and looked for things I’d never imagined, such as how often a suspect looks at his watch (something about to happen) or what’s his blink rate (nervousness). These cues gave me insight into these individuals and their actions.

We can always improve our observation skills; there’s always more to observe; it’s a continuing endeavor and it never stops because we can never know everything there is to know about body language or tells. The best we can do is study them and validate them every chance we get.
